Marsh, George Estabrook of Wellesley, passed peacefully at home on April 9th, at the age of 93. He was the son of Robert P. Marsh and Louise Estabrook Marsh of Springfield where he grew up with his late brother Robert P. Marsh. As a youth, he summered at Poland Spring with his grandmother Cynthia Ella Ricker Marsh, daughter of the founder of Poland Spring. In 1935, he was sponsored by law professor and Athletic Director Clarence “Pop” Houston through Tufts University, graduating Magna Cum Laude in Chemistry in 1940. After graduation, with wartime health deferment, he worked in the printing ink industry for Fuchs & Lang in New Jersey, then General Printing in New York City and Mexico City, joining Cabot Corporation in 1953. Working at Cabot in Boston and Frankfurt, Germany, he rose to Vice President, instrumental in development and success of Special Blacks Division, retiring in 1986. His leadership, passion, and ethics led to life long service commitments. He was an avid golfer from his early days, Tufts golf team, and long-standing member and leader at Wellesley Country Club. For 50 years, he was a Board Member at Franklin Square House in Boston, and co-founder of Franklin Square House Foundation funding housing for women and their families in eastern Massachusetts. He was an active board and committee member at Poland Spring Society, Tufts Alumni Council, and Houston Scholarship supporting student athletes. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Merrilyn Delano Marsh and three sons; Merrill Delano Marsh and his wife Gail Landry, grand step daughters Alex Collins Wight of New York, Madeline Landry, and Elizabeth Landry of North Yarmouth, ME; George E. Marsh Jr and his wife Sandra Henderson Marsh, granddaughters Kyle Delano Marsh and Eliza Lee Marsh of Essex, MA; Robert Houston Marsh and wife Lori Van Deusen Marsh, two grandsons, Nathaniel Houston Marsh and Patrick Spencer Marsh of Vienna, VA. Continuing his legacy and history, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Clarence P. and Henry C. Houston Scholarship, Tufts University, School of Arts and Sciences Development, 80 George Street, Medford, MA 02155. Services will be private, with friends and family reception to be announced.

Jones, Sara Jane (Clift) of Weston Massachusetts was born on January 6, 1941 and died peacefully at her home on May 12, 2013. She was the wife of Hugh R. Jones, Jr and the daughter of the late Dorothy and Carlton Clift also of Weston. Sara and Hugh are the parents of four children and their spouses; Tripp and Robin Jones, Allison and Jon Elvekrog, Clift Jones and Bryn Zeckhauser and Dan and Paola Jones.  She also leaves twelve treasured grandchildren; Hugh, Tucker and Eden Jones of Wayland, Jack, Austen and Tenley Elvekrog of Weston, Charlotte and Annabel Jones of Cambridge and Daniel, William, Benjamin and Sara Jones of Weston.  Sara is also survived by a sister Janet Louise (Clift) Rose of Wellesley, a brother John Payne Clift of Manchester Village, Vermont and many nieces and nephews. Sara graduated from Wellesley College in 1962 and was instrumental in establishing the Class of 1962 Student Internship Fund.  The fund provides summer stipends to students working for a woman, elected or appointed, in government at the federal, state or local level. When her youngest child went to first grade, Sara enrolled at Regis College, then Lasell College School of Nursing.  For 20 years after receiving her RN, she was a nurse at Boston Children’s Hospital. Her many volunteer activities included: Founder and Co-director of On TRAC, an after school program in Roxbury, Children’s Hospital Nurse for the Bridge Over Troubled Waters Medical Van serving the homeless in Boston, The Newton Wellesley Hospital Boards of Governors and Trustees, Community Representative to The Country School of Weston Council, The Weston METCO Scholarship Fund and The Weston Garden Club. HUGH PATRICK MC CARTHY JUNE 26, 1933 – MAY 20, 2013 MC CARTHY, Hugh Patrick, born in New York City in 1933, lately of Quincy, MA, to his beloved parents Callaghan McCarthy and Mary Winters, died peacefully on May 20, 2013 at UMASS Memorial Hospital in Worcester, MA, supported and comforted by his loving children, Kathleen Buck, Anne McCarthy, Brendan McCarthy, Genevieve Drinan, Daniel McCarthy and Mary McCarthy. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and his devoted sisters, Patricia Muenzen of Clinton, NJ and Margaret McGuire of Marlboro, MA and along with eighteen loving nieces and nephews. Hugh was predeceased by his eldest son Paul Hugh McCarthy (d. 1980). Hugh McCarthy graduated from Iona College, New Rochelle, NY, in 1955 and in 1959 received his Master of Science, Biology, degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He taught for several years in the Congregation of the Irish Christian Brothers at St. John’s, Newfoundland. Moving back to New England (New York City, New Jersey and lastly Massachusetts) his career continued in teaching and in publishing as science editor for Silver Burdett Co. and with Rheinhard, Holt and Winston and subsequently D.C. Heath/Raytheon. Of his many experiences he remembered with pleasure his association with the Knights of Columbus at Chester, NJ and the good friends he made there. He will be remembered for his wit, his erudition, and his passionate love for his family. Visiting hours are Sunday, May 26 from 4-8:00 p.m. at the George F. Doherty and Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St. (Rt. 16), Wellesley, MA. Funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, May 27 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul’s Church, Wellesley, MA. Rourke and Estelle (Bush) of Richmond Hill, NY. Mr Rourke was the beloved husband of 40 years of Leah (Pedroli) Rourke. He leaves 3 children, daughter Kayne Wilk and her husband Daniel of Brooklyn, NY, daughter, Allison Rickenbach and her husband Brett of Danvers, MA, and a son Charles F. Rourke II of Brighton. He also leaves a grandson Jack F. Wilk. Mr. Rourke was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy Class of 1954 serving the last years of his naval career on the submarine, The USS Atule, and Harvard Business School Class of 1962. He was a management consultant at the former Harbridge House Inc., and later a financial advisor for the New England Financial. Mr. Rourke was a member of the Society of Colonial Wars, former trustee of the United States Naval Academy and the Ward Room Club. Past member of the Corporation of the New England Baptist Hospital. CHANG, Virginia Wang of Weston, MA on May 20, 2013 at the age of 87. Cherished wife of the late Hu Lin Chang. Beloved mother of Dr. Grace Chang and her husband Dr. Rory Browne, and Dr. Michael Chang, all of Weston.

Born in Tianjin, China on June 2, 1925 she came to the US for her education in 1947. Educated at the College of New Rochelle (BA) and St. John’s University (MA), she was the first female broadcaster in the Mandarin Division of the Voice of America (USIA) in the 1950s. Working in New York and Washington, DC, she was soon promoted to be the Division’s Assistant Chief. After her marriage, she continued to work as a freelance journalist for the USIA and pursued her love of literature, current affairs, and scholarship by earning a Master’s degree in Library Science from Columbia University. She subsequently worked as a librarian at the New York Public Library, East Brunswick (NJ) Public Schools, and after moving to Weston in 1985, the Lincoln (MA) Public Library.

Visitation Friday [May 31] 5 to 8 pm, George F. Doherty and Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington Street (Rt. 16), Wellesley. Funeral Mass Saturday [June 1] 1030 am, St. Julia Church, 374 Boston Post Road, Weston Center. Interment, Linwood Cemetery, Weston.

Makris, Dr. Anastasia “Tess” of Jamaica Plain and West Harwich. May 28, 2013. Beloved daughter of the late Charles and Cornelia (Coulis) Makris. Sister of Virginia Betts of Wolcott, CT; Bess Antomakis of Framingham; Kostas Makris of Bristol, CT; Angelo Makris of Jamaica Plain and the late Athena Venturi. Also survived by nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many cousins. Anastasia attended undergraduate at University of Connecticut, received her Masters degree from Rochester Polytech Institute, and PhD from Harvard University. She was a faculty member of Harvard Medical School, avid antique collector and dealer, restaurateur, world traveler, and family was extremely important to her.

Funeral service at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 57 Brown Street, Weston, Tuesday, June 4th at 10AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visitation at the church prior to the service, Tuesday from 9-10AM. Interment West Cemetery, Bristol CT on Tuesday, June 4 at 2PM.
